An Idaho farm offers a new form of speed dating for those looking for something different than the typical dating scene. July 16, For one night a year, a neighborhood farm in northwest Boise turns into a respite for singles who are tired of the same old dating scene. The farm is among a handful across the country offering an unconventional form of speed dating.
Typically, speed daters meet at a bar or restaurant and switch conversational partners every few minutes, in hopes of finding someone compatible.
It is the corporate equivalent of speed dating, a practice invented in the late Some speed networking events use the same round-robin approach as speed Antonio (Lamberto Maggiorani) hanging a Rita Hayworth poster.
This series of posters was created in a workshop called Poster Speed Dating. It worked a bit like the game telephone in which one person whispers a phrase into the next person’s ear until all the people playing have heard a version of the original phrase. By the time the phrase reaches the last person, it usually has been misheard so many times it barely resembles the original phrase. For this workshop, instead of whispering in each other’s ears, we instead all started with the same brief and had to interpret it visually.
Next we used a template for the brief to interpret someone else’s poster using words. This created a new brief with we then passed on to someone else. For each round we received a brief, which we then interpreted visually, and then after the round we interpreted someone else’s poster in words, which became a new brief for the next round of posters. A photo of each brief is included beneath the poster.
For each poster, we were given anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours to create it, with the average being 45 minutes. Mallory Cadwell.

When the three-minute bell rings, say thanks and move promptly to the next date. The speed dating event is the brainchild of Weinreb pictured above and a group of friends who wanted to try their hand at helping singles in the Elm City connect beyond the usual bar and club scene. They cooked up the idea over a potluck dinner.
On Monday, those gathered for the event made small talk over drinks and small bites. There was no time for first-date jitters. Soon after people arrived, Weinreb and his assistants Sarah and Sergio were explaining the flow of things. Since the women outnumbered the men, the men did the honors of moving from date to date each time Sergio rang a bicycle bell. During the second connect and play prompts, the daters had the option to either explain to their date what kind of deli sandwich they would be or play charades.
Laurel said a couple of her friends came to the first Elm City Speed Dating event held back in March. Alas, dating in the 21st century, where people swipe left or right on profiles on their phone to find love, leaves a lot to be desired, particularly in terms of genuine in-person connection. Speed dating, Weinreb said, makes it fun but efficient.
They work together at Fair Haven School, where Weinreb is a fifth-grade bilingual teacher.
